On Tuesday, the 29th of October, representatives from IPA, LMS, EON, PENNY, DDE and DTI visited the OPEL production facilities in Kaiserslautern, Germany. A guided tour through the assembly line for the Diesel Engine and the pre-assembly station of the current Turbo Charger (Euro 5) was conducted.
Next, the assembly of the next generation Turbo Charger (Euro 6) was demonstrated; showing the various tools and components and highlighting typical problems, errors of the assembly process.
Then, a brainstorming workshop was conducted with the participation of stakeholders from the Advanced Manufacturing department (OPEL, Rüsslesheim), as well as production managers within the Kaiserslautern production plant. In the workshop the participants gathered user stories from different perspectives and roles (management, design engineer, production planer, shop floor worker, system-integrator, robot, etc.), and prioritized them according to OPEL’s needs (e.g. planning of work place, ergonomics, cycle time).
