Abstract

Medium-sized companies have products in much smaller batch sizes than large companies and therefore have a much higher demand for flexible automation AND economic solutions.

Robots per se are freely programmable and can be used for a variety of tasks. However, the elaborate, time-consuming and thus expensive programming of robotic systemslimits the economical use of robots to large volume production. Therefore, robots are often not an option for automation in SMEs.

To change this, ReApp aims at increasing the efficiency and flexibility of robot-based automation solutions by the following developments: "Plug & Produce" functionality via AML-based descriptions of hardware components, their interfaces and capabilities; library of semantically described software modules; an intuitive development environment for the integration of hardware and software modules, as well as linking the different software modules to a robotic applications and exporting it as an executable program; a cloud-based simulation environment for the systematic implementation of components, integration, and application testing prior to deploying the executable program.
