TELNET Pilot Case

In the antenna business TELNET assembles a wide variety of antenna models. As there are many differences from one model to another, it’s very difficult to recover the investment on automation. That’s the reason why a traditional automation solution can’t be used. This problem is complicated by the fact that sales are a mix of different types of antennas and there is no reliable information about the lifecycle of each type of antenna.

So, nowadays the manufacturing process is very manual and in case of a sudden increase in demand, TELNET has to hire additional personnel to handle the required leap in production. This presents TELNET with several problems, ranging from actually being able to recruit the skilled labour needed on short notice and what to do with that labor once that increase in demand subsides.

TELENET’s pilot case deals with the assembly of radiant elements for antennas, which come in different variants. The pilot case is characterized by a rather short cycle time.

It is noteworthy that this pilot case was already analyzed in a feasibility study for a traditional automation solution, which concluded that such a solution would be too inflexible and expensive (430.000 €). The results of the study will be used to compare the lean automation solution to a traditional automation solution.
